Pyramat is a unique, three-dimensional, woven polypropylene geotextile. How Pyramat works

The Science Behind Pyramat’s Performance Pyramat is classified as a High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM), a distinction earned through its multi-component structural design. The product matrix is fabricated from woven polypropylene monofilament yarns, utilising a proprietary fibre technology to form a three-dimensional, lofty structure. This configuration exhibits a uniform pattern of resilient pyramid-like projections. This geometry is key to achieving exceptional interlock and reinforcement capacity with both the in-situ soil and the developing root system.

The mechanical properties are evidenced by its high tensile strength of 58.4 x 43.8 kN/m. Crucially, its long-term performance is underpinned by a proprietary ultraviolet stabiliser package, ensuring a minimum of 85% UV resistance retained at 10,000 hours. When fully vegetated, the combined root-soil-mat composite is independently proven to withstand severe hydraulic stresses, tolerating a maximum shear stress of 766 Pa and a maximum permissible velocity of 7.6 m/sec. For applications demanding even higher resistance, the Pyramattress system is available, which constructs a geosynthetic/soil/rock composite to resist scour and intense hydraulic forces, providing a cost-effective alternative to traditional hard armoring.
