This system is designed as an efficient alternative to thick, heavy layers of gravel and filtration geotextiles. It’s a proven and reliable solution, ensuring high discharge capacity to manage infiltrating water and maintain the stability of your structure.

What is EnkaDrain™?

EnkaDrain™ is a three-dimensional composite made of a drainage core connected to durable nonwoven filters. The high performance drainage core is made of polymeric monofilaments spun into a pyramid or V shape configuration. This resulting structure is very open, ensuring maximum drainage capacity, and is compression-resistant with over 90% voids. Structural drainage systems have to provide the discharge capacity required under the maximum compressive stress of the relevant project.

This product is installed to reliably drain infiltrating water, preventing the build-up of hydraulic pressure. It also protects the structure coating from mechanical damage and is often used beneath the geomembrane as a gas-relief layer in landfill applications.

Your EnkaDrain™ Questions Answered

Rapidly installed single-layer solution to replace drainage trenches, that need to be geotextile lined, pipe bedding gravel installed, perforated pipes installed, more pipe bedding/SuDS aggregate, and then geotextile over the top. The water flow through a layer of EnkaDrain is equivalent to a minimum 400mm of Type 3 SuDS aggregate, meaning a full-load delivery replaces ~325no. 20t wagon deliveries of Type3. This is a significant time-saver on the works programme, and shallows construction, avoid muck away, and avoid the high disposal cost of any contaminated arisings.

Yes. On a slope, suspend from a spreader beam and 1-2 site operatives simply take hold of the leading edge, and walk it down the slope. On the flat, position it using site plant machinery, and 1-2 site operatives push it out across the formation.

Engineered Drainage for High-Stress Structures

A traditional drainage layer of granular material can often be over 300 mm thick, but its performance may decrease over time due to boundary deterioration and clogging. EnkaDrain™ revolutionises this with a three-dimensional geocomposite. This innovative structure features a drainage core of tough, looped synthetic filaments fused at their cross points, creating an open structural material that is highly efficient at transmitting water. This design is critical as it must handle the discharge capacity required under maximum compressive stress.

The product uses a high-quality filter fabric, typically a needle-punched nonwoven, stitched to the core to prevent the intrusion of soil particles from the overlying cover layer. The nonwovens are 10 cm wider than the core to provide an overlap between rolls. This prevents clogging, ensuring consistent and uniform long-term performance. With its high flow transmission and excellent compressive strength, it effectively manages precipitation and safely channels water away from the barrier layer. Long-term compressive creep and discharge capacity test data are readily available, giving you confidence in the product’s reliability.

The product serves as a direct, high-performance replacement for conventional thick gravel layers in both landfill and structural applications. This combination efficiently performs the functions of filtration, drainage, and protection against mechanical damage, all in a single, simple-to-install roll. By reliably removing infiltrating water and acting as a gas venting layer, it is essential for protecting the integrity and service life of the structure.
