NOTEX™ GLASS - Glass Fibre Asphalt Reinforcement Geogrid

NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid is a polymer coated glass-fibre geogrid for asphalt reinforcement. Its primary application is in highway re-surfacing to prevent reflective cracking and extend the life of new bituminous layers.

What does NOTEX™ GLASS do?

The installation of NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid reinforces the pavement and inhibits crack formation. This action extends the durability of the surface and the road’s life. Extensive research by major road laboratories in Europe has shown the benefits of using NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid to eliminate or retard reflective cracking, reduce rutting, and extend the fatigue life of a pavement.
NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid works by preventing strains in the asphalt from reaching a critical level. Laid within an asphalt/bitmac surface, it provides three essentials: reinforcement, sealing, and good inter-layer bonding. It’s the cost-effective solution for surface or road strengthening. NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid is compatible with all types of surfacing, including modern thin asphaltic concrete. It can be used with a minimum 70mm overlay thickness and SBS modified binders.

Properties of NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid:
• Polymer impregnated glass fibre grid.
• Maximum elongation 3.5%.
• High temperature resistance (800 deg C).
• High tensile and tear resistance.
• Creep resistant.

Reinforcing Asphalt Layers to Prevent Cracking

When roads age, stress cracks from the underlying layers (such as joints or fatigue cracks) propagate upwards into new asphalt overlays. This process is known as reflective cracking and significantly reduces the lifespan of a re-surfacing project.

NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid is designed to mitigate this issue. It is a polymer coated glass-fibre geogrid with a high-modulus, low-elongation structure (maximum elongation 3.5%). When properly installed—laid within the asphalt/bitmac surface—the geogrid acts as a stress-absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI).

The high tensile strength and creep resistance of the glass-fibre grid are key. They reinforce the pavement by confining the aggregate and limiting the movement within the bituminous layer. This prevents tensile strains from concentrating and reaching the critical threshold required for a crack to form or reflect upwards. The combined benefits are demonstrated through extensive research: eliminating or retarding reflective cracking, reducing rutting, and significantly extending the fatigue life of the pavement. The geogrid is also designed for compatibility, requiring only a minimum 70mm overlay and suitable for use with SBS modified binders.

NOTEX™ Glass Geogrid is a polymer coated glass-fibre geogrid specifically engineered for reinforcing asphalt pavements. It is primarily used in highway re-surfacing projects to prevent the recurrence of cracks, known as reflective cracking, and to extend the service life of new bituminous layers.

What it does is provide three essential functions when laid within the surface: reinforcement, to handle high stresses; sealing, to protect the base layers; and excellent inter-layer bonding, to ensure the pavement acts as a unified structure. It’s a proven, cost-effective method to strengthen both road surfaces and entire road structures.
