The Background

Deacons Boatyard is a medium-sized boatyard and marina located on the western edge of the River Hamble, positioned just downstream of the A27 Bridge.

The boatyard was founded in 1922 by Francis Deacon. The business started with a repair job on an outboard motor after Mr Deacon purchased a strip of marshland below the railway station. In its humble beginnings, the site featured one tiny shed, about the size of a watchman’s hut, and Mr Deacon and his wife lived on an ex-services Motor Launch. The business steadily grew, leading to the employment of more personnel.

Today, the site has evolved into a successful yacht agency, continuing the legacy of its foundation.

Our Client’s Requirements

The client required a robust, low-maintenance surface capable of withstanding year-round use and the challenges of changing weather conditions.

As the boatyard is situated next to the River Hamble, a key requirement was selecting a surface that complied with Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and all relevant environmental regulations to manage surface water runoff responsibly.

Our Value Engineered solution

Using the TTE™

paver system at Deacons Boatyard & Marina delivered significant engineered benefits across key areas, including drainage, load capacity, maintenance, and installation efficiency.

TTE™ offered an engineered solution by mitigating key risks associated with a boatyard environment: heavy loads, water exposure, and ground stability. The solution was supplied alongside the Golpla™ system.
