At Broadnook Garden Village in Leicestershire, establishing a sustainable, vegetated finish on steep embankments was a critical requirement for the development’s green infrastructure. The challenge: Soil migration on steep gradients

The newly constructed embankments faced significant technical constraints:

  • Vulnerability to rainfall: Topsoil was highly susceptible to heavy rain and surface run-off before vegetation could establish.

  • Inadequate traditional methods: Standard seeding alone could not prevent soil migration or “gullying” on steep slopes.

  • Need for permanent reinforcement: The project required a non-degradable layer to support the root matrix and comply with UK engineering standards.

Our value-engineered solution

Geosynthetics Ltd specified EnkaMat™ 7020, a three-dimensional permanent erosion control mat engineered from resilient polyamide monofilaments.

  • Volumetric matrix: The 95% open structure allows for total soil infill, ensuring the mat is fully integrated into the soil profile.
