What made you join Geosynthetics Ltd?

Prior to joining Geosynthetics in 2005 I had worked for a couple of civils merchants and had known Chris in his previous role prior to him setting up Geosynthetics. I had watched the company grow and personally had always held an interest in the geosynthetic sector of the market. When the opportunity arose to be involved with both the company and the sector I felt it was a good opportunity for me.

What three words would you use to describe yourself and why?

Approachable, determined and understanding. We spend a large proportion of our time at work and I am genuinely willing to help both colleagues and clients for the mutual benefit of all parties. I feel it’s important to ensure we do everything we can to make sure the customer has a positive experience when dealing with us.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

We are only on this planet for a short time and I think it’s important to enjoy our time as best we can. I have always enjoyed working in the UK construction market and particularly like the variety of tasks this provides from site visits to commercial negotiations and a host of things in between. I have always found the geotechnical market interesting, the fact we can influence our infrastructure and environment positively for generations to come I believe is a real benefit. Witnessing and being involved the companies journey from material supplier to solution provider has been a huge pleasure and I look forward to seeing this develop over the coming years.

What’s your favourite film?

I enjoy a wide range of films so difficult to pick one in particular but some memorable ones include Black Hawk Down, Reservoir Dogs, and Platoon. I have also enjoyed a number of box sets recently including Billions, Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy and Vikings.

When not in the office what do you enjoy doing?

I have a young family with 3 children so a large amount of time is given over to their various activities such as U6’s Football, Brownies / Rainbows and swimming lessons. My son, Fin, started playing football about 18 months ago and I have really enjoyed being involved in this. He has attended numerous academy training sessions and tournaments with the likes of Leicester City, Coventry City and Derby County.  In addition I also sit on the committee of a local private members club which provides some real insight into the running of a completely different type of business. When time allows I enjoy a variety of sports whether competing or spectating. I have completed a number of mud runs / obstacle races over the past few years.

What upcoming event are you most looking forward to?

We have a family holiday booked in the Canary Islands for later in the year which is always good fun, the kids are at an age now where we can all play in the pool etc. I’m also looking forward to the Rugby World Cup in the autumn, whilst I won’t be attending I am looking forward to watching in the comfort of home or possibly the local pub!

What is your highlight of working at Geosynthetics Ltd?

My real interest is delivering a successful project utilising our products and engineering capabilities over the years there have been numerous projects where I feel we have genuinely had a positive effect on the outcome of the scheme. Perhaps some of the most memorable include;

  • Northumberlandia
  • Wood Wharf. E London
  • UYO Flood Defence Scheme Nigeria
  • Elan Valley Aquaduct
  • Pont Briwet Causeway

Projects aside my involvement in the development of our engineering department from an initial vision to what it has become today is immensely pleasing.
