Engineering Internship

Doug Morley Completes 2nd Engineering Internship

Doug Morley has now completed the final week of his summer internship at Geosynthetics Limited. Doug is the 2015 recipient of the prestigious Geosynthetics Student Development Award (SDA) and throughout his four week internship he has been applying and consolidating knowledge and skills learnt during the first year of his Civil Engineering Degree at Loughborough University. Doug has gone on record to say that; “through completing CAD drawings for selected projects my skills in this software have improved massively and I will be able to apply this ability in classes during my next years at University”.

In addition to the internship, designed to augment classroom studies, SDA recipients are also encouraged to stay in touch with the engineering team at Geosynthetics Limited and contact them for advice or to answer any questions they might have. This distance mentoring has proved invaluable to Doug; “the ability to contact extremely well qualified Civil Engineers for advice has aided in developing a much more comprehensive knowledge of subject content at University.”

Additional to the internship and the mentoring, students also receive a payment of £1,000 a year for the duration of their University Course. This helps to alleviate some of the increasing financial pressure of University life. Doug commented; “I was struggling to cope with university work as well as working in a supermarket part time. The extra money allowed me to cut my hours, in order to focus on university assignments whilst still enjoying a healthy student social life.”

Geosynthetics Limited wishes Doug all the best for his second year at university when he returns after a well earned summer break and we look forward to seeing him for his next internship.
