Introducing our very first “Employability Scheme” student

Geosynthetics Ltd would like to introduce you to our very first “Employability Scheme” student Tom.

Tom is a student at the Dorothy Goodman School and has been spending the current term completing a specifically designed work placement with our Company

The placement is of twelve weeks duration and as well as gaining new skills by the end of it Tom will have achieved his AIM qualification in Business Admin and Customer service.

This work experience opportunity has been developed through our close working links with Dorothy Goodman School, our Enterprise Advisor and Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership.

This new initiative is intended to give Dorothy Goodman Students the opportunity to gain skills and qualifications in a working environment which is crucial for their futures when they leave school. It also gives them the opportunity to learn and develop new life and work skills.

Tom has been a brilliant team member and has learnt to be efficient and competently the duties assigned to him which include stationery checks and orders, shredding, order confirmations, post, document printing, communication emails to suppliers and much more.

We asked Tom a few questions to find out a little more about him and how he felt about his opportunity.

 

What do you want to do when you’re older?

My dream job has always been to be a priest however I also really enjoy working in an office environment.

 

What do you want to get out of this placement?

My main aim from the placement is to get a business admin customer service qualification and to learn new skills.

 

What do you enjoy most about what you do with Geosynthetics Ltd?

From this placement with Geosynthetics Ltd so far, I have enjoyed my day to day roles such as checking the stationary and completing the order to refill the stationary stock, printing order confirmations for the company’s customers and also printing the proof of delivery sheets. I’ve also learnt to use lots of new software, including the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and business accounting software. I also deal with suppliers for stationary orders and outlook for my internal communication within the team. It’s been really interesting to learn these new skills and using new software.

 

How would you describe yourself?

I would say I’m very hardworking and friendly! I’m respectful to all those around me and I am also quite outgoing and approachable.

 

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

My favourite hobby is to sing, I am in two choirs and regularly attend both. I also attend church every Sunday.

 

What kind of music do you like listening to?

My favourite music is classical church organ, I really enjoy listening to this.

 

What is your favourite meal and where is the best place to eat it?

My favourite food has to be pizza and the best place to get it from is definitely dominos!

 

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

If I could have a superpower of my choice, I would make everybody’s voice be heard!
